Soft starters are not suitable for equipment requiring emergency braking, such as elevators, hoists, and lifting equipment. While soft starters achieve smooth starting by gradually increasing the control voltage, they lack the ability to control the stopping process and cannot provide the smooth stopping and emergency stop control offered by frequency converters. Therefore, frequency converters are a better choice in these applications because they not only provide smooth starting but also control the deceleration process, ensuring a smooth and safe shutdown.
